Welcome to Philadelphia Telangana Association (PTA), a USA registered not-for-profit 501(C)(3) organization formed by the Telangana Non Resident Indians (TNRIs), to preserve the cultural identity and contribute to its development. PTA is formed to provide a platform for literary, cultural, educational, social and developmental activities in USA and in Telangana.
Telangana is a region in south central India, constituting most of the Deccan plateau. Centuries of independent existence has given Telangana its distinctive and rich culture and identity. Entire Telangana is sandwiched between two major rivers of India, Krishna and Godavari.
This great region with rich resources, after being forcefully merged with Andhra region against the wishes of its people has been subject to internal colonization for the past fifty years. Today Telangana presents a desolate picture with rampant poverty, illiteracy, child labor, farmer suicides, and unemployment, water and electricity shortages due to discriminatory policies of successive AP governments.
Telangana is a tale of misery with diverted resources, discriminated policies, suppressed culture and ridiculed language. Telangana is a story of broken promises and shattered hopes, a story of continuous betrayals and brutal suppression.
Today since the Telangana state is formed there is a hope for people to get better opportunities. There is an increasing need for Non Resident Telanganites to do their part in the development of Telangana. PTA will provide a platform for Philadelphia based TNRI’s (Telangana Non Resident Indians) to;
